About Barfold Olives

In July 1999, George, Pam & Jason Brajevic met the local real estate agent at a little deserted church in Redesdale with the view to perhaps buying the property for a bed and breakfast, but when it became evident that the former church property wasn't quite what we were looking for, we enquired about land in the area.

As it happened, there was 40 acres (16ha) in Barfold for sale, and as soon as we set foot on the land, we knew this was what we wanted - a parcel of grazing land with established red and grey box gums and bushland, plus two dams.

Thus Barfold Olives was born.

From November 1999 through to the end of 2001, our olive grove was planted in three stages, with extensive irrigation works installed as well during that time.

So today, we have approx. 2200 trees of both table and oil varieties

These predominantly being;

Manzanillo

Frantoio

South Australian Verdale

Hardy Mammoth

Nevadillo Blanco

Kalamata

Tiny Oil Kalamata

Our first harvests, although small, we made into pickled olives, and then in 2003 we had our entire harvest locally pressed into extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). This oil, an early pick, was very intense with a peppery flavour, and was voted as the best tasting oil by the members of the Central Victorian Olive Growers Association at the Annual General Meeting in August 2003 - an exciting moment for us!

MISSION STATEMENT:

Barfold Olives is committed to the continual improvement of growing and producing with pride, quality olive oils and olive products while respecting the land and practicing environmentally sustainable farming with minimal use of chemicals
